Moore wants people to stay out of Georgia and not even buy his own book in Georgia; in fact he is going to try to pull all books out of Georgia.
But, he says, "If Grand Central Publishing doesn’t pull the 427-page book, Moore said he will “donate every dime of every royalty my book makes in Georgia to help defeat the racists and killers who run that state.”
Brian Robinson, a spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal, found the filmmaker’s rant amusing. “We think it’s cute that he thinks anyone in Georgia would buy his book, but if any Georgian does, I’m happy to double the royalties and buy a pack of gum for a charity of Michael Moore’s choice,” Robinson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Michael Moore is all about getting attention, it is very frustrating to see him take it out on the citizens of Georgia. I do not think these comments will make people want to even order/buy his books. The execution was a touchy subject, but it had time to be appealed before the last minute. These comments he made disgust me and how can a film maker bash the economy of a state when our country, as a whole, is in an economic recession. I am curious how many people back his comments.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I highly doubt that Michael Moore did significant if any research on the subject of Troy Davis' execution. His threat to pull his books from Georgia shelves and condemn the "racists" in this state is just a publicity stunt to get people in other states to buy his books. My latest blog post was about a similar subject of celebrity "concern" about legal matters, even though they show little to no evidence in their arguments. Moore should stick to making biased, ridiculous films instead of getting involved in matters in which he has no leverage or education.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you two. One of the most annoying things is when celebrities comment on legal matters or anything else they want to. The public sees them as caring citizens. That last time I checked talking for your health and not doing anything about a problem is not caring. I am pretty sure that most of them just form their opinions off of the headlines. I am not surprised that Michael Moore decided to take his rant to that level. I do not believe for a second he did all of this out of his good heart. Everything that celebrities do is for attention and that will never change.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone's point here. Let's face it: Michael Moore will do just about anything to make money off of someone else's misery. I still fail to see how Georgians are racist for executing a black man the same day a white supremacist was executed. Seems a bit ironic to me, really!
ReplyDeleteI agree too. Moore is more so about entertainment than anything so I don't really value his opinions anyways.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very ignorant comment he is making. I personally am all for this type of execution. If someone if 100% guilty, like in this case, they should be executed. I wish states carried out the death penalty more often. I feel that this would deter a lot of the crimes that happen. "An eye for an eye." This whole comment is just shows how naive and dumb he really is. This man was not executed based on race or because the people who run this state are killers. The law is the law. Black people should not kill and they should be protected under the law the same way that whites are. He really just showed how ignorant he is in this comment. Celebrities should not speak on matters unless they are fully educated on them.
